SMS Messaging Terms

Active Defender provides text message notifications on behalf of participating schools and school districts. These messages are sent only to school staff members who have confirmed that they want to receive them.

Who receives these messages

Only staff members of a participating school or district. Active Defender does not send text messages to students, parents, or members of the public through this program.

How staff opt in

A participating school provides Active Defender with the mobile numbers of staff members who have agreed with their school to receive these notifications. Active Defender then sends each number a single message asking the staff member to confirm. No further messages are sent unless the staff member replies YES to that request. Consent is recorded with the date and time of the reply.

A number that has been provided but not confirmed will not receive notifications. A staff member who does not reply may receive one reminder, and nothing after that. STOP works on the confirmation request itself.

What messages are sent

Operational notifications related to the school day, including notice that a visitor has checked in and is on the way to see the staff member, and other campus notifications configured by the school. Messages are transactional. Active Defender does not send marketing or promotional text messages through this program.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies by school and by role. Most staff members receive a small number of messages on a typical school day.

Cost

Message and data rates may apply. Active Defender and your school do not charge for these messages; your mobile carrier's standard rates apply.

Carriers

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Privacy

Mobile information collected for this program is used only to deliver the messages described above. It is not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. See our Privacy Policy.
